Being able to manage our energy is important to protecting those boundaries that give us a sense of balance.

What’s the best way to bring yourself back to a mindful moment?

Currently, I’m introducing my grandson to the world of building model airplanes. This began as sharing fun activities from my childhood…until he asked me a simple question.

Why did I enjoy making models?

The surface answers was “because it was fun”. Upon reflection I discovered a whole lot more.

I picked up this hobby when I was about 13 years ago during a period of turmoil in our family. My parents divorced, we moved to a different neighborhood, my siblings were at least nine years older, and there was no real relationship with my dad. Since my mom wasn’t the bread winner, she had to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Like many kids in similar circumstances, I spent a lot of time alone and was socially awkward. Fortunately, I had a vivid imagination and turned to making models as a way to explore a world different from my own.

The time spent sharing my favorite pastime made me realize that my hobby helped me to focus on the present moment.

Although I relied less on my hobby as I became more comfortable with that version of myself; it left an indelible impression on who is was to become.

The point of sharing this moment is the awareness that practicing mindfulness is unique to the individual.

I believe that it’s helpful to learn the foundations along with a few simple techniques; then explore other methods until you find the best fit for you.

Perhaps there’s a helpful hobby from your childhood?

Just imagine…

What if it could possibly serve you now?

Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Excited for your empowered self.
